Marion Duckworth Smith
Marion Duckworth Smith has always
envisioned a romantic lifestyle. From
early childhood when she studied classical ballet and piano in
Brooklyn,
NY, she dreamed of a future upon the stage where the curtain would be going up and
she would be the star of a show with a beautiful set design to back her up. Her mother, Rozsika, is a Master Pastelist still working at 86 years of
age. Her Prince Charming husband
Michael had the foresight to buy a little known historical landmark farmhouse
and carry
Marion
over the threshold. With an
artistic flair and photography background,
Marion’s focus was to create a picture perfect setting, frame by frame. Seeing her house and garden as through the lens of a camera, her quest
was to design beautiful vignettes everywhere the eye could see. Her stage was born, the curtain was going up and indeed she is the
leading lady of Paradise Acre.
In
addition to her work restoring the historic house and creating her romantic
garden,
Marion
has
created photographic images turned into millions of greeting cards. She has also devoted over a decade each to the Animal Movement and to
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Her
book, "The Romantic Garden", published by Chapelle Ltd./Sterling
is available in our souvenirs section.
